Girl of My Dreams

by Bram Tchaikovsky

—— was an American girl
She came in one morning with the U.S. mail
She didn't say nothing
But she looked pretty good to me
Golden hair that shined so bright
Loving eyes that seemed out of sight
She could keep the secrets
That we shared in my world of dreams

And a man needs something
When he ain't got nothing to hang on to
And there ain't no telling
When I'll feel like yelling 'I love you!'

It gets lonely in the night
When there ain't no one around
She makes me feel all right
Get my feet right off the ground
She's the girl of my dreams

—— does what I ask her to
She makes me happy when I feel blue
She stares with the eyes of a child
And gets me to my knees
Her heart, it never beats in time
Except when it's beating close to mine
I keep her from my friends
Locked away with my fantasies

Long May You Run

by Neil Young

We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run

Long may you run, long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run

Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run

Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singing 'Caroline, No'
Rolling down that empty ocean road
Getting to the surf on time

Long may you run, long may you run
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run

Out There

by Juliana Hatfield

You drive around aimlessly
Don't know what you hope to see
You know it's stupid
I see you when I pass you by
I'm afraid to meet your eye
I know it's stupid

You have a voice, you have a phone
But you're usually alone
You know it's stupid
I have a body and a brain
But I turn them off again, again
I know it's stupid

There's nothing to do
It's so hard to talk to you
And people never do what they want to
I don't know what, and I don't know where
But I know it's out there
It must be out there somewhere

I'm gonna leave this place
Gonna leave this life of waste
Gonna put on a new face

Where was I before?
I'm not there anymore
Went away and tried to come back
Maybe I shouldn't have done that

There's nothing to do
It's so hard to talk to you
And people never do what they want to
I don't know what, and I don't know where
There's nothing out there
It's not out there anywhere

I'm gonna leave this town
Gonna leave it like I found it
Gonna turn myself around

He's Always Been Faithful

by Sara Groves

Morning by morning I wake up to find
The power and comfort of God's hand in mine
Season by season I watch him, amazed
In awe of the mystery of his perfect ways
All I have need of, his hand will provide
He's always been faithful to me

I can't remember a trial or a pain
He did not recycle to bring me gain
I can't remember one single regret
In serving God only and trusting his hand
All I have need of, his hand will provide
He's always been faithful to me

This is my anthem, this is my song
The theme of the stories I've heard for so long
God has been faithful, he will be again
His loving compassion, it knows no end
All I have need of, his hand will provide
He's always been faithful to me

If You Change Your Mind

by Eric Carmen

Well, it's all been said, it's over now
I guess that I should leave
'Cause there's nothing left for me to do
Except to set you free

So let me leave now before I cry
I'll just go back to my room and hide
And never let no one else inside
To do this again

But if you change your mind
Won't you take some time
And let me know that you
Still want me too?
'Cause I'll wait night and day
Until you say
That you have changed your mind
Won't you change your mind?
If you should change your mind

Well, I tried so hard to be the one
That you were dreaming of
But I guess it wasn't quite enough
To make you fall in love

So walk away, leave me by myself
And let me crawl back into my shell
And be the me that I knew so well
Before I met you

I'll be waiting at home
Just call me up on the phone
And I'll be by your side
There's no reason to hide
If you need me, just call
Don't you worry at all
But if this is the end
And I can't see you again
I just can't carry on
It's so hard when you're gone

Jungleland

by Bruce Springsteen

The Rangers had a homecoming
In Harlem late last night
And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine
Over the Jersey state line

Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town, rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance
And disappear down Flamingo Lane

Well, the Maximum Lawmen run down Flamingo
Chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl
And the kids around here look just like shadows
Always quiet, holding hands

From the churches to the jails
Tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand
Down in Jungleland

Well, the midnight gang's assembled
And picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet 'neath that giant Exxon sign
That brings this fair city light

Man, there's an opera on the turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cop's cherry top
Rips this holy night

The street's alive as secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanish unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switchblades
Hustling for the record machine

The hungry and the hunted
Explode into rock and roll bands
That face off against each other out in the street
Down in Jungleland

In the parking lot
The visionaries dress in the latest rage
Inside, the backstreet girls
Are dancing to the records that the DJ plays

Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night goes on
Just one look and a whisper
And they're gone

Beneath the city, two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
In a bedroom locked, in whispers of soft refusal
And then surrender

In the tunnels uptown, the Rat's own dream guns him down
The shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches as the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside, the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between what's flesh and what's fantasy
And the poets down here don't write nothing at all
They just stand back and let it all be

And in the quick of a knife
They reach for their moment and try to make an honest stand
But they wind up wounded, and not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland

Painted from Memory

by Burt Bacharach
and Elvis Costello

Such a picture of loveliness
Didn't you notice the resemblance?
Doesn't it look like she could speak?
Those eyes I tried to capture
They are lost to me now forever
They smile for someone else

Funny how looks can be deceiving
But she's not easily painted from memory

You'd think that I would know by now
Those eyes I tried to capture
They are lost to me now forever
They smile for someone else

And so this had to be painted from memory

She is gone and I must accept it
She is lost to me now
But I can't look away just yet though
She smiles for someone else

And so this had to be painted from memory
Funny, now I can see how looks can be deceiving

Watch the Sunrise

by Alex Chilton

I can feel it, now it's time
Open your eyes
Fears be gone, it won't be long
There's a light in the sky
It's okay to look outside
The day, it will abide
And watch the sunrise

Sun, it shines on all of us
We are one in it's hand
Come inside and light my room
Like the heart of every man
It's okay to look outside
The day, it will abide
And watch the sunrise
